Cats & Dogs in a Viper Room on Sunset

So last night The Ivorys had the pleasure of going to see Evidence at The Viper Room on Sunset. With our ears still ringing from the 808's this morning we couldn't have asked for a better show. With DJ Babu on the turntables, Evidence has every one from Alchemist to Ras Kass to Rakaa (Iriscience) on stage. He hit us with some classic stuff as well as some new stuff off Cats & Dogs like "You" and "It Wasn't Me." This show definitely falls among one of the all time best shows we have gone to in awhile if not ever.

Check out some of the pics from our iPhone below.

Steve Jobs

"Your time is limited...don’t waste it living someone else’s life." -Steve Jobs

"Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition, they some how already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary." - Steve Jobs

The Ivorys where saddened to hear about the death of Steve Jobs. He fought the good fight. He had been battling Pancreatic cancer for some time and although not clearly specified as to whether this was the result of his passing he lost the battle just a day after the recent keynote speech given by Tim Cook who revealed the iPhone 4s. Steve Jobs was a visionary, innovator and someone who changed the world of computers and technology for the better. When they told him he would fail or that he wouldn't be able to do it, he did it anyway. Without his ground breaking ideas we wouldn't be living in the world we are in now. Whether your an Apple lover or PC user, it goes without saying that Jobs' brilliance pushed and challenged the competition to think bigger and better and try and do what Apple was and has been the best at doing. Job's was always thinking one step ahead and was always looking towards the future. He was passionate about what he did as we all should be in what it is we set out to accomplish. Although it may seem like he has gone to soon he definitely left his mark here on earth.

"Steve's brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives," Apple's board said in a statement. "The world is immeasurably better because of Steve."

We leave you with his commencement speech of 2005 to the graduating class at Stanford University.

The Misadventures of ABG Ep. 9

So my monthly fix of The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl has arrived with another hysterical episode. I can't wait to see who "J" finally chooses. Check out episode 9.

Remember BBD on Fresh Prince?

So one of my all time favorite shows would have to be Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Anyone remember the episode with Bell Biv DeVoe (BBD)? Classic episode. Favorite part of the whole music video episode is when Ronnie DeVoe did his one legged hop dance move.

Sorry about the quality. This is the only version that would actually let me embed.

Where's the 5?

photo from techcrunch.com
With tech enthusiasts waiting in anticipation for today's Apple announcement in hopes to see what the new iPhone 5 would look like and what features would be included; after all the wait and all the buzz we come to find out that there is no iPhone 5 release announcement...what? what's this the iPhone 4s? Definitely was somewhat of a downer because we (The Ivorys) have been waiting to upgrade to the latest and greatest of iPhone's but I guess we will have to pause on that. Although there was no iPhone 5, Apple did roll out some pretty exciting new features that will be included in the iPhone 4s... so maybe in the meantime we will upgrade to that.

Check out what TechCrunch.com details below as the best parts of the new iPhone 4s:
If you were hoping for a brand new iPhone 5 today, you might be a little disappointed. Instead, Apple announced the iPhone 4S, which looks exactly like the iPhone 4—on the outside. On the inside, it’s a whole different story, and that the message Apple tried to get across during its presentation today. So let’s unpack the iPhone 4S and take a look at its guts to see what’s new.
First, and most importantly, the iPhone 4S will be powered by a new A5 processor. The A5 is a dual-core processor which will be up to twice as fast as the current A4, and seven times faster processing graphics. Apple is also claiming faster data speeds (with maximums of 14.4 Mbps download speeds, and 5.8 Mbps upload).
Second, it’s got a dual CDMA/GSM chip for different networks, making it a world phone (and cheaper to manufacture to boot since Apple won’t have to make two different models for different carriers). The antenna is also redesigned to improve call quality (AT&T should be loving that tweak). There are actually two of them, which can switch between transmitting and receiving.
Third, the camera is much better. Not only is it an 8-megapixel sensor with 60 percent more pixels than the one in the iPhone 4, but it is also designed to capture 73 percent more light 33 percent faster. The camera includes a high end infrared filter as well as five layered lenses which should improve the sharpness of pictures by up to 30 percent. And since the camera is one of the most used features on the phone, double-tapping the home button now opens the camera. The time it takes to get off your first shot is 1.1 seconds, and half a second for each shot after that. And it shoots 1080p video as well.
That’s the hardware. The iPhone 4S also will ship with iOS 5, and all the iCloud-enabled apps. AirPlay will aslo work on the phone so that you can stream videos wirelessly to your Apple TV.
But the biggest new piece of software that takes advantage of the A5 chip is the Siri Assistant, a voice-controlled assistant you can call up anytime by holding down the home button for a few seconds. You can ask it the weather, time, directions from Yelp, schedule a meeting on your calendar, reply to messages, play a song from iTunes, or ask any factual question via Wolfram Alpha. All with voice commands.
Prices start at $199 for a 16GB phone, and go up to $399 for 64GB. Who’s buying one?

Cats & Dogs

Happy Friday all! So this week was a big week for music from J.Cole, to Blink 182, 9th Wonder, Phonte to Evidence. There were so many albums that dropped.  One album that definitely stood out and has me playing it on repeat would have to be Evidence's Cats & Dogs. "On a new level wait... I mean a new label"... Evidence as always been one of my favorite artists PERIOD. His new album Cats & Dogs definitely does not disappoint.

Check out Evidence talking about "Strangers," definitely one of the best tracks off the album.

Also here's the vid for "It Wasn't Me" off his latest album.

The Saga Continues...

(Image from www.setanta.com)
So as I mentioned before I am training for the 2012 LA Marathon which will be my 3rd stab at it. My goal is to break 5hrs but I really want to break 4hrs. 30min, which I am definitely set to meet. I just started training and I am feeling really good. Had speed work yesterday- 3 sets of 4x400m- and after the last 400m my coach announced that the marathon world record had been broken by Patrick Makau of Kenya in Berlin on September 25. Makau set the new world record at 2:03:38, which is insane.

Check out the full article below from sbnation.com:
Sep 25, 2011 - Patrick Makau broke the world record in the marathon on Sunday with a 2:03:38 performance at the Berlin Marathon. The Kenyan Makau beat legend Haile Gebrselassie's 2008 record by 21 seconds. Haile, from Ethiopia, had set that record in Berlin, as well. In fact, the last four world record marathons have been run at Berlin, which (accurately) bills itself as the world's fastest marathon.
Haile ran in 2011, but did not finish. The 38-year-old Ethiopian has never won Olympic gold in the marathon -- he has two golds in the 10K -- and will continue to attempt to qualify for the 2012 London Olympics. Makau ought to be the overwhelming favorite in London. The 2008 champion, Sammy Wanjiru, died after a fall off of a balcony earlier this year.
Florence Kiplagat won the women's race in Berlin, coming in at 2:19:45. The top American finisher on the men's side was Alex Crabill at 2:17:42.
Here is another article from the Wall Street Journal detailing the victory. Read the full article HERE

Although Makau holds the titled now, records are definitely made to be broken.
