School Daze

Earlier this week I went to visit my old stomping grounds. Even though I don’t live far from there now, it seemed like a completely different world when I went to visit. I have so many memories from my school daze good and bad but all priceless.

When I stepped on the Cal State Northridge campus I was wide eyed and excited about life and my future. Coming from Victorville this was kind of like a big deal. I had already lost a scholarship to a four-year university back in high school because I didn’t take care of business, lesson learned. I went to San Bernardino Valley College for two years and worked my butt off to get to CSUN. To some CSUN is “JUST A STATE SCHOOL”.... JUST A STATE SCHOOL WWWHHHAAATTTTT!! are you CRAZY!!!  This place CHANGED MY LIFE. This place raised me when family wasn’t around. This place opened my eyes to what I could be if I just put my heart and soul into it. Maybe some are embarrassed they “only went to CSUN” and not the school on the other side of the hill. But I’m not one of them I’m proud to be a Matador as silly as that may sound to some. Shoot I met my best friend on the CSUN campus and eventually married her and eventually started The Ivorys with her so I owe CSUN more then I can ever repay. GO MATADORS!!!

Home

Despite what my teammates say I owned this pit while I was on the track team.

For some reason this was the spot to hang out in between classes

Manzanita Hall...The place where I found my voice.

This place will always be NCR in my book.

The Ivorys at Abbot Kinney Festival!

We will be at the Abbot Kinney Festival this Sunday October 7,2012 in Venice, CA from 10am-6pm. Should be an amazing time...We are booth #179 near Main Street...Hope to see you there!
A little about Abbot Kinney:
ABBOT KINNEY FESTIVAL
Since its founding in 1984, the Abbot Kinney Festival has grown in size and popularity to become one of the largest community events of its kind in the country. Each year, it attracts 150,000+ eco-conscious urban singles, couples, and families to the sunny beachside community of Venice on the last Sunday in September.
In addition to giving back to the community, the festival is best known for its unique array of local artisan crafts, live music, good food, and commitment to the environment. Activities and areas are designed to complement the eclectic, cutting-edge mix of over 100 boutiques, art galleries, restaurants, bookstores, design firms, coffee shops, clubs, salons, and much more along the famed bohemian-chic shopping district of Abbot Kinney Blvd., which stretches one mile from Venice Blvd. to Main St.

Wednesday's Words

The moment when you realize you've been playing yourself short, you've been operating on a low level.... in that same moment you realize I can do better I can be more organized I can eat better focus more I can stop complaining and start solving I can stop waiting and start going..I can listen more and talk less I can be all the things I've been dreaming of...now plug your ears when the naysayers talk as soon as gossip starts turn around and walk...stop worrying about how the next man got on...focus on your situation and turn BAD GIRLS CLUB OFF (or any other reality show) use your time wisely because its not guaranteed... Stop feeling sorry for yourself and do more then just eat sleep and breath...you have given every excuse in the book why you can't succeed...I'm a single mom I'm a single dad...they all hating on me!!! Awwww stop for a minute and assess your situation yeah it's not fair and yeah your mind and body are aching...but you can do better you can be more then who you see...everyone's road is tough I know a lot have it harder then me...but I believe in you I just hope you would too i know a lot of you from way back when...I see updates and I'm like I wish they remembered WHEN!!...when they were confident before the world stepped in...when they lead groups and clicks from freshman year until the very end...BSU and captains of sports teams...we all have made mistakes...I get it.. now move on...figure out your next steps instead of talking about the old ones...make bold moves but always map them out...you can't wait for a friend to come along and say "ill help you figure it out" ...help yourself my friends that power is hidden within and when you start to do that confidence kicks in and when that confidence kicks in you'll understand what I'm saying...take you're time and figure it out and put the excuses to bed....I wish you all well....
